Essential Safety Equipment

Supplementary Restraint System (SRS)

  • The front and side supplementary restraint systems (SRS) include up to 4 air bags. Please verify the air bags equipped on your vehicle by locating the SRS AIRBAG location indicators. These indicators are visible in the area where the air bags are installed
  • The air bags are installed in thefollowing locations:
    • The steering wheel hub (driver airbag).
    • The front passenger instrumentpanel (front passenger air bag).
    • The outboard sides of the frontseatbacks (side air bags)
  • Without seatbelt usage, the airbags cannot provide adequate protection duringan accident. Seat belt usage is necessary to
    • Keep the occupant from being thrown into an inflating air bag
    • Reduce the possibility of injuries during an accident that is not designedfor air bag inflation, such as a roll over or rear impact
    • Reduce the possibility of injuries in frontal, near frontal, side collisionsthat are not severe enough to activate the air bags
    • Reduce the possibility of being thrown from your vehicle
    • Reduce the possibility of injuries to lower body and legs during anaccident because the air bags provide no protection to those parts of thebody
  • Hold the driver in a position which allows better control of the vehicle
Warning!
Never tamper with the air bag/pretensioner system. Self-servicing or tampering with the systems is dangerous. An airbag/pretensioner could accidentally activate or become disabled
